"Hey Misty, catch!" Iris yelled as she threw a giant beach ball at Cerulean's gym leader.
Smiling, Misty lazily opened one eye and caught the ball when it was inches from her face. "Nice try Iris, but you'll have to do better than that." Iris huffed in annoyance and planted her hands on her hips.

"I meant for you to catch it," Iris said, while pulling an apple out of her hair.
Misty moved the ball out of view to see Iris standing at the end of her chair. The dragon trainer wore a yellow one piece with straps going around her neck.

"Isn't it a little odd for the birthday girl to be giving things out?" Misty smiled as Iris threw her hands up in the air dramatically.

"I wasn't giving it out; I was trying to get you out of that chair. I don't know how you can do nothing for so long." Iris looked over at Misty as she sluggishly got out of her chair. Misty wore a red bikini with a pink lining.

"Either way, happy birthday, Iris." Misty held out a small present, covered by paper covered by dragon Pokémon.

Without hesitation Iris snatched the present from Misty's hands and began tearing at the paper greedily.

"No Muchlax! You can't eat that!" Hearing May's call Iris and Misty looked over at the coordinator. Her brown hair flew out around her as she chased the hungry Pokémon. Her pink one piece was covered in red and yellow spots.

Iris looked down at the Pokémon she was chasing, jumping out of its way as he ploughed right into the paper on the ground, and began eating.

"That can't be too good for him," Misty thought out loud. Iris nodded her head in agreement. As Muchlax devoured every last piece of paper.

"I knew Muchlax ate everything, but this is insane!" May started running around the beach holding chunks of hair in her hands.

"A ticket to Jhoto." Iris stared at the ticket in her hands before looking over at Misty.
"There's a place there called Blackthorn City. I think you'd like it. Everyone in the town owns a dragon Pokémon." Excitement filled Iris's eyes as she threw away the box that hid the ticket.

"Thanks Misty." In response Misty nodded.

After dodging a hysterical May, Dawn walked up to the duo and held her present out. "Happy birthday."

With a smile Iris accepted the present. "Thanks Dawn," Iris said, while looking at the wrapping which was covered by contest ribbons.

Dawn stood in front of Iris, nervous. Dawn knew they were very different in almost every way. Nerves getting the better of her Dawn started playing with her hair, which was tied into a pony tail. Dawn subconsciously looked down at her swimsuit, the deep purple one piece flared out to a skirt at her waist.

"A ribbon case?" Iris held it up and studied if from many different angles.
"In case you ever want to participate in Pokémon contests with May or myself. You may find it fun." Still a little unsure Iris swept all the wrapping paper up in her arms before Muchlax could eat it.

Getting sick of running around ineffectively May grabbed Muchlax's Pokeball. "Muchlax return!" Huffing in frustration May stuck the Pokeball back into her bag, and fetched Dawn's present.

"Happy birthday," May said with a smile as she held the present out.
Placing the ribbon case on Misty's chair Iris tore at the paper that was once covered in pictures of Unova Pokémon.

Iris pulled the card out and inspected it. The gift voucher for potions sat in her hand.
"I figured you'd need potions if you were training up in the mountains." Seeing May's logic Iris nodded in satisfaction. That would come in ahndy. Training dragons can only be done in extreme conditions. "So, are you going to join a contest with us?" May slung an arm over Dawn's shoulders and smiled.

Iris looked over at the coordinators while considering the proposal. "Well, I can't let Dawn's present go to waste." May and Dawn cheered. "But if I don't like it I won't be doing it again." Trying to calm each other down May and Dawn nodded at the dragon trainer. "Now where's my cake?"

Misty giggled while packing up her gear. "It's in town, waiting for us to order it." Iris waved a dismissive hand at Misty.

"You go. We'll wait here and play games." Rolling her eyes Misty slipped into town. Once Misty was out of sight Iris turned to May and Dawn. "Who's up for a game of beach volleyball?" The two girls nodded.

"What about numbers though?" Dawn asked as they walked to the volleyball net.

"I guess one will have to sit out until Misty gets back." May shrugged.

"I can play by myself." Iris pointed a finger toward herself.

Not wanting to miss out the coordinators nodded.

When Misty came back everyone stopped to eat cake. Shortly after the game resumed. Misty joined Iris, who was successful in beating the sandy trainers.
For :iconpokemongirls: third birthday contest.

I got so nervous when writing this, which is probably why it's far from my best piece. I hope the nerves start leaving me as I enter more contests.

The theme was 'celebration' I found that quite difficult, but I think I did alright considering I'm used to writing shipping stories. I should explore more writing outlets.
